Easy Valentine’s Gift Idea
These money roses turn out so pretty – they are the perfect DIY gift for Valentine’s day, Mother’s day, a birthday, a wedding, or graduation. Who wouldn’t want to receive a money bouquet? I’ll show you how to attach the lovely roses to floral stems so they look pretty in a vase or added to a bouquet of fresh long stem roses. You can make each rose with as little as three dollars, or you can use larger increments for a special gift!

Why You’ll Like this Money Rose Tutorial
The best part about this type of money flower is that the process is simple – it will only take about ten minutes to make each rose. Additionally, all you do to the money is fold it a few times and curl the edges, so it won’t get torn or ruined. You won’t use any tape or glue, just a bit of floral wire, so it’s very easy for the recipient to snip the wire to take the money roses apart. They can iron the dollar bills flat and then spend their newfound cash on whatever they like!

Money Roses Video
To make it super easy for you to make your own money roses, I’ve created a step by step video with voiceover instructions. I think it’s much easier to follow this tutorial if you watch the video; however if you don’t like watching videos I have also included photos and instructions below as well as a printable instruction card at the very end of the post.
Supplies
Here’s what you need to make money roses:
- Faux Rose: I grabbed these artificial Rose Stems from the Dollar Tree but any silk flower with a nice stem and leaves should work. You’ll discard the flower and use the stem for your money rose.
- Dollar Bills: You’ll need three bills for each rose. Use any increment you like. Crisp bills are nice, but if the ones you have aren’t brand new just iron them flat before beginning.
- Floral Wire: This is a thin green wire you can find in the floral sections of a store like Walmart or any craft store.
- Toothpick
- Scissors (or wire cutters, but scissors work just fine)

Fold the Bills
The first thing you’ll do to make a money rose is to fold each dollar bill into a cup shape. Start by folding the bill in half widthwise and give it a good crease. Then open it up and fold it in half the other way, but this time only crease it through the center, not all the way out to the edges. Then open the bill out flat again. Fold the top right side of the bill down diagonally, meeting the center line, and crease it halfway down. Repeat with the left side. Then rotate the bill and do the same thing from the bottom of the bill.

When you open it up the bill, you’ll see the creases make a diamond. Pinch up both sides along that diamond. Then flip the dollar bill over and from this angle all you see is the diamond. Take the top corner and fold it down to meet the center line and crease. Then take the bottom corner and fold it up to the center line as well. You’ll see now you have corners to the left and right.

Layer the bills
Cut a piece of floral wire that’s about 18 inches long. Grab on elf the dollar bill cups, you’ll see there are slits down two sides. Slide the wire down inside those slits, then bring the wire together underneath it the cup and give it a twist, making sure the wires point out to the sides that do not have slits.

.
Slide the rose inside the last dollar bill, again using the toothpick to press the base down. Bring the wire together underneath and give it a good twist. The last step in making this rose is to use the toothpick to roll the corners of the two outer bills outward to create petals. You can fluff the bills a bit and open up the curves to make it look more like a rose.

Add the Stem
Ok, now it’s time to give the rose a stem! I grabbed some faux roses from the dollar store. Begin by pulling off the stem, then pull off the plastic piece and leaves that sit right under the rose. There will also be a small tube piece; use scissors to snip that off and save. Set aside the rose petals. Grab your money rose and thread the floral wire through the small tube piece. Then thread the wires through the leaves and plastic piece – the tube should come right through them. Finally, you are going to slide the top of the stem into the tube piece, pulling on the wire as you do so.

Instructions
- Fold dollar bill in half widthwise, then lengthwise. Fold down corners and crease halfway down, then do the same thing from the bottom.
- You have created a diamond in creases. Pinch up the bill along those creases. Flip it over so all you see is a diamond. Fold the top corner down to meet the center, then fold the bottom corner up to meet the center.
- There will be two corners to either side. Smooth out those corners to create a cup shape. Repeat with the other two bills.
- Cut an 18 inch piece of floral wire. Slide it down the two slits in the first "cup". Twist the wire together underneath, then let the wire extend to the sides that don't have slits.
- Use a toothpick to curl the top corners of the bill in an "S" shape.
- Slide the curled bill inside another "cup" and use the toothpick to press it down. Bring the floral wire to the bottom again and twist it tight. Repeat with the third "cup".
- Use the toothpick to curl the corners of the two other bills outward to create petals.
- Pull the stem off the faux rose. Remove the plastic piece and petals that sit just below the rose. Snip off the small tube and save it. Thread the wire on the money rose through that small tube, then slide on the leaves and plastic piece. Finally, slide the top of the stem into the tube while pulling on the wire.
- Wrap the wire around the top of the stem, snipping off any excess. The rose is finished.

That’s awesome! Here’s an idea you can share if you like. My mom used to put the gifts under the tree a week or longer before Christmas ( not the ones from Santa of course!) Then she would buy some Christmas snow in a can and spray them all! It looked like snow piled up under the tree and she could see fingerprints if we tried to peak! 🙄😉😃
