In today’s post: Learn how to make this gorgeous blanket using loop yarn and the Twisted Stitch EZ Blanket pattern from Yarnspirations. It’s the easy way to knit without needles or any knitting experience!

Loop Yarn Blankets
Loop yarn blankets are one of my very favorite things to make, especially when I need a cozy project to relax with for a bit. Loop yarn is thick, soft, fluffy yarn that already has loops sewn into it so you can knit using just your fingers, no experience necessary! The process is extremely simple, and just look how pretty the finished blanket turned out:

If You are a Beginner…
Using loop yarn is very easy; however, the blanket I’m showing you today is an intermediate level project. If you have never used loop yarn before, please read my Loop Yarn for Beginner’s Post first and watch the included videos. For your first loop yarn project, you may want to try this Basic Cable Knit blanket. However, if you already have some experience with loop yarn (or knitting), today’s post will help you get rolling with the gorgeous blanket you see in the photos here.

Get the Pattern
The gorgeous blanket I’m showing you today was made using the free Twisted Stitch EZ Blanket pattern from Yarnspirations. If you’d like to make one, you will need to head over there and download the pattern. This pattern uses four different stitches, and I’ve created a video for you that walks you through each stitch so you’ll be able to follow the pattern and create your own blanket.

Get Your Loop Yarn
There are different brands of loop yarn available, but my favorite brand is the Bernat Alize Blanket EZ yarn found on Amazon. It’s super soft and fluffy, high quality, and comes in large balls so you don’t need as many. It can get expensive to purchase enough balls to make a good size blanket; however I think the quality and luxe look of the result is worth it. The pattern says you’ll need 9 balls of Bernat Alize brand yarn to complete this blanket; however I only used 7 balls of yarn and my finished blanket is 54 inches wide and 66 inches long, which is plenty big for a throw blanket in my opinion. You could probably make a 54 inch square blanket with 6 balls. (Remember if you use a different brand of yarn you will need more balls for the same size blanket.)

Helpful Hints
The video above teaches you the basics you need to know in order to complete the Twisted Stitch EZ Blanket, but here are a few more helpful notes:
- I used 7 balls of Bernat Alize Blanket EZ yarn and my blanket is 54×66 inches. I started with four rows of a bottom border as directed on page 1 of the pattern, then I used the chart on the last page of the pattern. I went through rows 1-32, then started again at row 1 and went to row 27. Then I finished with four rows of a top border as directed on page 4 of the pattern. You can make your blanket as long or as short as you like, just use the chart on the last page and stop after an odd numbered row, then complete the top border.
- As you work on this blanket, keep an eye on the pattern. Your twist stitches are going to make diamond shapes, so the will be offset by one loop each time.
- If you need help adding new balls of yarn, troubleshooting extra stitches, or finishing the top of your project, watch the videos in this post.
- For an alternate method of adding new balls of yarn, use a sewing machine to sew the first loop of the new ball right next to the last loop of the old ball. Go back and forth a couple times to make sure it is secure using a zigzag stitch. When the blanket is finished, tie in the tails and trim the excess.
- I mentioned this a few times in the video, but it’s really important to stop and tug your stitches straight as you are working. This help ensure you don’t miss any loops and makes the pattern in the blanket more pronounced.
- I worked on this blanket sitting at a table. I often work on loop yarn blankets while sitting on the couch with the blanket in my lap. However, this pattern is complicated enough that it was much easier to have the blanket spread out on a table as I worked.
- Be sure to print out the last page of the pattern and mark off your stitches as you complete them, otherwise it’s very easy to get lost.
