Ingredients

  • 4 cups Honey Nut Chex
  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1/8 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 4 cups Popped Popcorn
  • 1/2 cup Reese's Pieces
  • 1/4 cup Candy Corn
  • 1/4 cup Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  • Measure out 4 cups of Chex cereal into a large microwave safe bowl.
  • Place butter, both sugars, and water in a smaller 2 cup microwavable measuring cup or bowl. Microwave uncovered for 1 minute and stir well until mixture is melted and smooth. (You may need to microwave another 30 seconds.) Stir in baking soda until dissolved.
  • Pour mixture over cereal and stir until evenly coated.
  • Microwave the cereal mixture for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat process until you have microwaved the cereal for two and a half minutes, stirring every 30 seconds. Spread cereal out on a baking sheet and cool for 15 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cereal, popcorn, Reese's Pieces, candy corn, and chocolate chips. Store at room temperature in a covered container.

Notes

Popcorn: You can use pre-popped popcorn from a bag, or pop a bag of microwave popcorn (or airpop some popcorn). I prefer using popcorn that has a light butter + sea salt flavor.
Candy Mix-ins: You are welcome to adjust the candy mix-ins to your preference. Candy Corn adds a festive Halloween touch to this mix, but if you think it's too sweet, just leave it out or add salted peanuts instead. Feel free to tinker with the recipe and adjust to your personal preference.
