I know peter pan collars are like, so 2012, but I still love them. Pretty much every shirt looks cuter with one. It’s super easy to add a simple peter pan collar to the front neckline of any tee shirt. Choose a contrasting color to keep it feeling modern, and then die over the cuteness like I do every time my daughter wears this shirt. Here’s how:
1 – Use paper to sketch out and then cut a collar pattern. The collar pattern should follow the curve of the neckline and stop at the shoulder seam. 2 – Cut collar pieces out of knit fabric. Remember to add extra room for seam allowance on all sides of collar, and to cut two of each piece. 3 – Sew collar pieces together, RST, leaving the side that touches the shoulder seam open. Turn right side out and press. 4 – Hand stitch the collar to the neckline. At the shoulders, tuck the raw edges in and hand stitch along the shoulder seam.
I only added the collar pieces on the front (instead of all the way around like a traditional collar) for a couple of reasons: 1: it’s WAY easier to draft the pieces in the front only, and 2: adding the collar takes some of the stretch out of the neckline, so leaving the back alone ensures the shirt will still fit over the wearer’s head.
