Last week I shared the free “hello spring” dress and top pattern in girls’ size 4/5, as well as photos of the dress version. Today I wanted to show you what the top looks like.
Cute, right? I just love those gathered fluttery sleeves, and the little peplum on the bottom is pretty adorable too. I think it’s going to look really cute with shorts for summer.
This pattern is designed for use with knit fabrics, although I do recommend avoiding extremely thin, stretchy knits. The fabric I used for this top actually came from a jersey sheet set from Target (you might recognize it from the Play All Day dress). The little triangles are adorable, and the material is actually a little heavier in weight than most jerseys I can buy at my local fabric store, so it worked out really well. I hate when white fabrics are see-through, and this one is totally opaque!
The neckline on photos you see here is a little wider than it ended up in the final pattern. The only other change I made here is to just serge along the bottom edge of the peplum instead of turning it up and hemming; I didn’t have quite enough fabric so I had to cut the peplum piece a little short. Otherwise this is what you’ll get if you sew up the top option.
To make the hello spring top, you’ll want to download the free printable PDF pattern in girls’ size 4/5 by clicking here. Print out the pattern at 100% and tape it together without trimming the pages. It will look like this:
Cut the pieces as directed in the original tutorial, except instead of cutting two skirt pieces, you’ll cut two peplum pieces, as directed on the pattern.
Other than that, you’ll sew everything up just as directed in the original tutorial.
I hope you like it! And in case you missed it last week, this is what the dress option looks like:
