Easy Treat
These Oreo penguins turn out so cute! You can put each one together in just a couple minutes, making this a great recipe to work on with your kids. I used heart sprinkles to make the beak and feet, which makes this a cute Valentine’s Day treat, but you could use mini M&Ms or different sprinkles to make these any time of year.
Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make Oreo penguin treats:
- Oreo Cookies
- White Candy Melts: You’ll find these in the candy or cake decorating section of any large grocery store.
- Small Candy Eyeballs: Again, check the cake decorating section.
- Heart Sprinkles: I used Betty Crocker heart sprinkles, but you could use the hearts from this set of sprinkles at Walmart, or this set of sprinkles at Target should also work.
How to Make Oreo Penguins
Cut Wings
You’ll start by separating some of the Oreos and scraping out the frosting. Lay one Oreo half on a cutting board and use a sharp knife to slice a piece off as shown below. It works best to saw the knife back and forth quickly. You’ll be able to cut three slices off each Oreo half. Then use a quick chop to cut the slice in half to create a set of wings. (Some of the Oreos will break while you do this – kids will love eating the broken pieces!)
Melt the White Candy Melts
Place a small handful of white candy melts into a ziptop sandwich bag. Microwave for thirty seconds, then knead the bag. Microwave another 15-30 seconds until the candy is completely melted. You’ll use the melted candy to “glue” the various pieces onto the Oreo. Snip off ***just a little bit*** of one corner of the bag to make a tiny hole you can pipe the candy out of. (To repeat, make a tiny hole here! You can always make it bigger but you can’t make it smaller.)

Instructions
- To make wings, separate a few Oreo cookies and scrape off the filling. Gently saw across the edge of the cookie to make three slices from the outer edge of each cookie. Cut each slice in half to make a set of wings.
- Place a small handful of candy melts in a plastic sandwich bag and melt in the microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. Snip a *tiny* bit of one corner of the bag off to make a hole you can pipe the melted candy from.
- Use the melted candy to attach a white candy melt on the front of each Oreo.
- Use the melted candy to attach two eyes just above the candy melt.
- Use the melted candy to attach heart sprinkles for the beak and legs. Attach wings if desired. Allow cookies to set for 5-10 minutes.
