Alternate title: How to teach your one year old to count
Sometimes the funny/sweet/important stories of our lives unfold when we don’t have a camera at hand. For example, the first time I saw my kids doing this…
… I was so busy ordering them to STOP THAT IMMEDIATELY! that it didn’t even occur to me to take a picture of it. It wasn’t until later, when I noticed my one year old daughter was saying “one, two, free!” every time I got near the couch with her, that I realized I really needed a picture (or two, or three) of her brothers tossing her onto the couch. See, I didn’t teach her how to count to three – they did. Every time they’d toss her onto the couch they’d swing her back and forth first, counting to three. And she loved it! And so any time we got close to the couch, she’d yell “one two free!” as a way to ask me to join the game too.
So then I really wished I’d taken pictures that first time I saw it happening. Because staged, after the fact pictures are dishonest and ruin the whole integrity of your scrapbook, right?
Not a chance. Staged, after the fact pictures can help you remember those awesome bits of life that you were too busy living to photograph! Staged, after the fact pictures help you make really fun scrapbook pages that you wouldn’t be able to make otherwise:
Don’t worry if you missed the shot. Make it happen again, sometime when your camera’s out and ready. (Just make sure your kids don’t miss the couch…)
