DIY Christmas Ornament
You know how Trader Joe’s always smells like cinnamon this time of year? The scent comes from little cinnamon whisks – they look like tiny brooms, and they’ll make your house smell amazing! Grab a bunch of these cute little whisks and turn them in Santa Claus ornaments for your Christmas tree. Your kids will love helping you make this easy Christmas craft.

Supplies
Here’s what you need to make these cute DIY Christmas ornaments:
- Cinnamon Whisks: These little whisk brooms are from Trader Joe’s and they are scented with cinnamon. Each one is about 6 inches tall and costs just over a dollar. The cinnamon scent is nice and strong, making your whole room smell like Christmas! (If you are sensitive to scents you may want to open the packages and leave the whisks in your garage for a few days to air out a bit.)
- Fabric: You’ll need a six inch square of fabric for each Santa ornament. I used plaid cotton fabric. The larger plaid is from Dollar Tree and the smaller plaid is from Hobby Lobby. Flannel would also work well!
- White paint and paintbrush: I used cheap acrylic craft paint and a cheap foam paintbrush.
- Wood Balls: I used half inch round wood balls from Hobby Lobby for the noses. You could also use small pom poms.
- Twine: I used narrow jute twine for a rustic look; you could also use colorful baker’s twine or string.
- Small jingle bells or other embellishments
You will also need a hot glue gun to put the ornaments together.

How to Make Cinnamon Whisk Santa Ornaments
Paint the Beard
The first step is to paint the lower part of the whisk broom white. Tap a foam brush into white paint and then tap it onto the front of the whisk using a dabbing motion. Allow the paint to dry before continuing (you can use a hair dryer to dry it very quickly).

Instructions
- Paint the front of the whisk white, using a foam paintbrush and a dabbing motion. Allow it to dry completely (you can use a hair dryer to dry it quickly).

- Fold up one edge of the fabric about half an inch and press.

- Place the fabric square over the cinnamon whisk, making sure there is about an inch of fabric above the top of the whisk. Use a little hot glue to adhere the fabric to the whisk on each side.

- Flip the whisk and fabric over. Fold the fabric over from one side, tucking the raw edge under, and secure with hot glue. Repeat with the other side.

- Flip the whisk back over and glue on the wood ball for a nose.

- Cut one piece of twine at 8 inches and one piece at 12 inches. Thread a jingle bell onto each end of the 8 inch twine and tie knots to secure.

- Wrap the 12 inch piece of twine around the top of the hat, right above the top edge of the whisk handle, attaching the bells, and tie a knot in the back. Tie the ends of the tails in a knot to create a hanging loop.

- The cinnamon whisk Santa ornament is complete!
