Easy Christmas Craft
Kids love snow globes. Kids also love looking at picture of themselves. Today’s projects combines both of those into a easy Christmas craft. I saw the idea to use a clear plastic plate to make a snow globe on Fireflies + Mud Pies and thought it was so cute! I figured my kids would like it even better if we put pictures of them inside the snow globes. So I designed a couple free printable snow globe backgrounds so you can do this craft with your kids too!

Photo Tips
This craft works best with a photo of your child standing up. When taking a picture of your child for this craft, remember you want them to be about four inches tall in the printed photos. If you are taking a photo vertically, leave room above and below the child, then print the photo as a 4×6. If you take a horizontal photo, do NOT leave any room above and below the child. If you are using an old photo, crop or resize it so the child ends up about 4 inches tall when the photo is printed.

Supplies
To make a photo snow globe, you will need:
- Printable Snow Globe background printed on card stock or other heavy paper: there are four background options available in the blue box above
- 4×6 photo of your child (child should be about 4 inches tall in the printed photo)
- 7 inch clear plastic plates: I used dessert plates from Dollar Tree
- Epsom Salt: this the the “snow” in the snowglobe. You can use fake snow if you prefer, but I love the sparkly look of Epsom Salt and it’s inexpensive at the dollar store. The salt will likely erode the photo over time so if you want to make this a craft you can keep long term fake snow may work better.
- Snowflake Stickers: found at Dollar Tree
You will also need a gluestick and a hot glue gun.

How to Make a Photo Snow Globe
Cut Things Out
To assemble, cut out the snow globe. Then cut your child out of a vertical 4×6 photo. NOTE: the photo will fit best if the child is about 4 inches tall once it’s printed, so be sure to leave some room above and below the child when taking the photo. Then use a glue stick or other adhesive to glue the photo of the child in the center of the snow globe background.

Glue on the Plate
It is easiest to use hot glue to attach the plastic plate to the snow globe background, but an adult *MUST* do this step if hot glue is used. (You could probably use Elmers glue instead but you’d need to make sure not to disturb the project while it dries.) Run a line of hot glue all the way around the raised outside edge of the plastic plate. Work quickly so the glue doesn’t cool. Immediately flip the plate over and press it down onto the snow globe background.

- Use glue stick to adhere the child in the center of the snow globe background.
- Decorate with snowflake stickers or have your child draw in snowflakes or a snowy day background. Pour about 3 tablespoons of Epsom Salt in the center of the snow globe.
- An adult must do this step: Run a line of hot glue around the edge of the plastic plate, working quickly so the glue doesn't harden. Immediately flip the plate over and press it down over the background.
- Add more hot glue if needed to ensure there are no openings where salt can escape.
