Because I’m always looking for a good excuse to make cookies, I’ve been trying to give more of my baked goods away lately. But I’m a terrible grocery shopper {I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the store and actually purchased everything on my list } and I always forget to buy paper plates, so I never have anything to give my baked goods away on. And it’s just too embarrassing to show up on someone’s doorstep with a baggie of cookies, you know? So last summer I created some folded paper cookie, cupcake, brownie, and truffle boxes so I could put my old scrapbook paper to good use as treat packaging (downloadable templates here). But those were individual serving sizes – so recently I made a slightly larger folded paper cookie gift box that holds 6 large or 10 small cookies. Each box takes two pieces of 8.5×11 cardstock and is just plain cute.
I cut a circle out of the lid of each box and lined it with plastic cut from a plastic page protector (a transparency would work as well). This way you can see the cute treats inside. The adorable paper I used for these boxes is from A Muse Studio, a stamp company that carries all sorts of awesome stamps, ribbons, dies, and papers. They sent me some of their gorgeous printed cardstock to try out in scrapbooking, but I’m using it for cookie boxes instead 🙂
When the box itself is so adorable, all you need is a little ribbon or twine to tie it shut. They even look cute with nothing but a strip of washi tape across the front.

To make one of these boxes, start with two pieces of 8.5×8.5 cardstock. (Final box dimensions are 4.5×4.5, which was perfect for packing up 10 2-in cookies. If you want a larger box, just start with a larger piece of paper, but be aware you may need to line the bottom of the box with cardboard for stability.)
***Make sure your cuts and folds are as exact as possible for the best looking box***

definately making these!
I’m not seeing the link for the template?
A PAGE PROTECTOR?!!! Who would have thought?! You are a genius!
Melissa – this one doesn’t actually have a downloadable template. Just start with a piece of paper that’s 8.5 x 8.5 inches and follow the directions. Begin by scoring 2 inches from each edge, then cut and fold as shown. Thanks!
These are fantastic!, ok silly question time!!… Is that some type of rotary cutter that you used to cut the circle? Haven’t seen that type of cutter before here in the UK. Would love if you could let me know and I can try and source one. Thank you so much!
Looks like a Creative Memories circle cutter, not sure if they are going to be selling them anymore, the company will reopen in November 2013…
maybe an exacting knife would work!!
I already knew how to fold paper gift boxes, but I never would have thought of cutting the viewing window for baked goods. That is so cute and smart.
I love these…the perfect way to jazz up cookies for a gift! I’d love for you to come link this up at the Weekly Creative Link Party that just went live this morning!

Cuuuuute idea : D
Cookies for gifts are what I always love giving to my friends and I also put it in a box like the one shown above. However, I just bought those boxes I used and this time I check if I can make my own boxes. Thank you for posting the tutorial above. I will mark this page so that I can have a guide in making it.
Wow, that looks pretty nice! I really love boxes and having to do it on my own and customizing my own design and color can be so much interesting! I will mark this page and I will surely give this a try. Thank you so much for sharing this idea.
You’re welcome, Lorraine! If you make boxes of your own, I’d love it if you’d take a photo and upload it to the It’s Always Autumn reader projects flickr pool (linked in the menu bar).
I’m going to put popcorn in it 🙂
Hi there! Do you use Twitter? I’d like to follow you if that would be ok.

Hello!! I love these boxes! Except, I didn’t really understand how to make the top. The measurement were off, or I didn’t understand what it said, was it 1.15? 2.5? 1.5? I did the top the measurement of the bottom. It did not fit perfectly, but it at least closes. I hope you answer my question, I would love to make many of these, they’re so simple and pretty! Thank you!!! Have a great day!
I was a little confused on making the top too. It seems like maybe a step or two was skipped in the written directions/pictures? I’ll check other blogs and post if I find something. Thanks!
The for the bottom you cut the slits to 2 inches
The tops are 1 15/16 of an inch so literally almost two inches, not 1.15 1.15 would be just over an inch where as you need just under 2 inches! About the tip of a pen difference between the two
Wow they look sooo great! And the paper I love, can’t wait to make these for my best friends birthday next week, thank you for sharing! X
This a great to use leftover scrapbook paper, cards took or any thick paper or thin cardboard scraps. Definitely use for holiday giveaways.
