I love maxi skirts–I feel like the length is pretty flattering on me and they usually manage to hide most of my “problem areas”. However I do have one beef with them: most maxi skirts you find in the stores are cut quite slim through the hips. Combine a tighter cut with the lightweight stretchy fabric they’re usually made in, and a little too much ends up on display when I wear them. Like my mommy tummy. And a few other rolls I prefer to keep disguised. What I really want from the perfect maxi skirt is some fullness and drape.
After realizing how easy a knit half circle skirt was last week, I decided to give a half circle maxi a try. I love it! It’s as comfy as any maxi skirt, but the fullness just makes it look a bit better. Plus it swishes as I walk, which is kind of fun.
I followed the exact same steps as I did in the half circle skirt tutorial, just cutting the hemline quite a bit longer. This meant I needed 3 full yards of 60 inch wide fabric.
If you’d like to make one, follow the instructions in last week’s post.

I am a person that always used patterns to make things, this is new to me making my own patterns from instructions, but the skirt is so lovely, I am going to give it a try. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much! I am short so with three yards I was able to make a skirt for me and my five year old daughter? AND two matching headbands for us! Whew! We wasted very little fabric
And are matching cuties!

If you read the tutorial she links to her first skirt all you need to get is your waist size and divide by 3.14

You look truly lovely in your maxi! I have the exact same trouble spots you describe…now I am inspired to make my own, too!
