In today’s post: Learn how to make these cute little friendly ghosts using a foam cone and a microfiber cloth from the dollar store. This is an easy Halloween craft for adults or kids that you can complete in under half an hour.
Today’s project is quick and easy, and so cute! We made two little ghosts that look like they are carrying pumpkins using supplies from Dollar Tree. This is a fun, no hassle Halloween craft you can do with your kids.
Supplies
This cute little ghost is made using a foam cone and foam ball covered by a soft white cloth. You could make one in any size you want by using different sizes of foam cones and balls. I used supplies available at Dollar Tree to make this craft simple and inexpensive, so my ghosts are about 9 inches tall. Here’s what you need to make this friendly ghost craft:
- Foam cone: I used a 7 inch cone from DT
- Foam ball: I used a 2 inch ball from DT (a slightly larger one would work too!)
- Microfiber cloth: found in the car care section at DT
- Small pumpkins: I pulled pumpkins off a floral pick from DT
- Small square of black felt
- Small popsicle sticks
- Fake eyelashes
- Ribbon
Create the “Body” for Ghost
To begin, break one small popsicle stick in half. These will be used to create “arms” that hold the pumpkin. Push one half of the popsicle stick into the foam cone about 2.5 inches from the top. Push the other half of the popsicle stick into the foam cone far enough away to that the sticks can hold the pumpkin you are using (don’t worry if the pumpkin doesn’t stay in place, you’ll glue it later).
Next, use a little hot glue to adhere the foam ball to the top of the foam cone. Use a small amount of hot glue; using too much can cause the foam to melt.
Create the Ghost
Next, place the white microfiber cloth over the ghosts “body” and arrange it as you like. Then cut out a couple of eyes from black felt and set them on the cloth – they will stick to it without adhesive so you can see if you like the size/shape and placement of the eyes. You can also add a small fake eyelash to each eye.
To make a bow, cut 12 inches of wired ribbon. Fold the ends in toward the middle and overlap them about an inch. Scrunch the ribbon down in the middle, then twist it twice to create a bow shape. (Alternatively you can tie a bow; the twisting method is just super easy if you are using the wired DT ribbon.) Place the bow on the ghost’s head to check the position.
Once you like where everything is, you can use hot glue to secure the eyes, pumpkin, and eyelashes and bow if desired.

Equipment
- Hot Glue Gun
Instructions
- Break a popsicle stick in half. Press both halves into the foam cone about 2.5 inches down from the top, spaced so they can act as "arms" to hold the pumpking.
- Use a small amount of hot glue to adhere the ball to the top of the cone (too much hot glue will melt the foam).
- Cover the "body" with the microfiber cloth. Cut eyes from felt and place them on the cloth to check the position, adding eyelashes if desired.
- Cut a 12 inch piece of wired ribbon. Fold each end toward the middle and overlap about an inch. Twist it twice to create a bow shape.
- Once you like the position of everything, use hot glue to adhere the eyes, eyelashes, pumpkin, and bow.
