Use the pliers to curve the end of the wire that you just straightened. Hook it back in the other curved end and use pliers to close it up. Place the wreath on the table with the connected area at the top. Split the beads in half so that there are 24 on each side of the wreath, then mark the wire at the bottom in the middle as shown below.
Continue bending until the frame is in an upsidedown heart shape, as you can see below. Now you are going to split the beads again, but this time push 13 beads on each side up toward the top (connected part) of the wreath, and 11 beads toward the bottom (pointed in part) of the wreath. Use a sharpie to mark the center of the wire, as you see below. *Also* make a small mark on the inside of the beads just above and below where you marked the wire so you can keep track of which beads go above/below the next bends you will make.
Display
These butterflies are easy to make and inexpensive, so you can make as many as you’d like! Here are some display ideas:
- Hang them on a wall using a nail or small hook.
- Poke a skewer up through the back of the butterfly and stick the other end of the skewer in a flower pot.
- Use a couple wood bead butterflies to decorate a summer wreath.
- Use thread to hang them in front of a window.

Equipment

Instructions
- Use pliers to unhook the wire wreath and straighten out one end. Remove five beads, then hook the wire back together.
- Separate the beads so there are 24 on each side, then mark the center of the wire at the bottom (the connected portion should be at the top).
- Use the pliers to bend the spot you marked in toward the middle of the wreath.
- You'll create an upside down heart shape. Separate the beads again so there are 13 beads on the top and 11 beads on the bottom on each side. Mark the wire in between the sets of beads. Also mark the insides of the beads on either side.
- Use the pliers to bend each side in at the marked point, bringing the bends toward the center.
- Bring the top (where the wires connect) down toward the center as well to create a butterfly shape. Use your hands to round out the shape of the wings.
- Wrap the jute cord around the wire bends, letting about 6 inches of cord extend from the top before wrapping. Wrap up and down once, then side to side once, then up and down a number of times to create a body for the butterfly.
- Twist the jute cord together at the top, then trim the excess. Add a dot of hot glue where you trim the cord so it doesn't fray.
- Shape the antennae as desired.
