In today’s post: Make a cute carrot “wreath” to hang on your front door. You can complete this easy Easter craft in under an hour.
This Easter carrot “wreath” will be a fun addition to your spring decor. It’s not a traditional round wreath made on a wreath form; instead it’s made by wrapping rope around a foam craft cone and adding faux greenery to make a carrot top. Super easy and super cute.
Supplies
Here’s what you’ll need to make this carrot wreath:
- Cotton rope: I used two packs of 11 ft rope from Dollar Tree.
- Craft Foam Cone: I used a 9 inch tall cone (find it at Walmart, Jo-Ann, or Hobby Lobby; Dollar Tree sells smaller cones that could also be used).
- Acrylic Craft Paint and cheap foam paintbrush: You could also use spray paint, but I have lots of colors of acrylic paint on hand and they are very inexpensive so that’s what I used.
- Burlap Ribbon: I used a roll of Burlap ribbon with lace on it from Dollar Tree.
- Faux Greenery: find faux greenery at Dollar Tree or Jo-Ann.
- Optional: You can add a small tag or other embellishments if you like. I created a little “hoppy Easter” tag which you can download by choosing this text.
How to Make a Carrot “Wreath”
It will take less than an hour of hands on time to make this Easter craft. Just remember you’ll have to wait to let the paint dry before you can finish assembling the carrot. You will need a hot glue gun. Follow the tutorial below.
Cut the Foam Cone
Unwrap the foam cone and use a small kitchen knife to make a few cuts. First, cut vertically along one side of the cone as shown below to make one side of the cone a little flatter. This will be the back, and making it flat will help the carrot sit flat again a door or wall. Next, cut around the wide edge at the top to curve it a bit and give it more of a carrot shape.
Glue on the Rope
Take the end of one piece of rope. Use hot glue to attach it to the very bottom of the cone (the pointed end) in a spiral, as shown below.
Glue the rope to the cone, spiraling it around:

Continue covering the foam cone with rope. If you run out of rope, just glue a new piece of rope right up against the end of the first piece and continue gluing. Make sure to do this on the flat side of the cone, which will be the back.
Keep gluing on rope until the cone is completely covered except for the very top where you need to leave an opening to add greenery. Create a loop of rope that will be used to hang the carrot and glue everything down very well. Allow it to dry. NOTE: Make a smaller loop than you see here; this one is a little too large so the finished carrot wreath bounces around a bit as the door opens and closes.
Paint the Carrot
I used acrylic craft paint to paint the carrot because I have lots of colors and was able to mix the exact shade of orange I wanted to use. Once you like the paint color, mix in some water to dilute the paint so it’s somewhat watery. That makes it much easier to paint the carrot and get paint into all the texture of the rope. Alternately, you could use spray paint if you have it in a shade that you like.
Load the foam brush with a lot of watery paint and dab it up and down on top of the carrot, working to cover all of the rope. If there are a few places that don’t get paint that’s fine, it will just look a little more rustic. Once you’ve painted the entire carrot, allow it to dry before continuing.
Assemble the Carrot Wreath
Now it’s time to put everything together! Stick faux greenery in the top of the carrot and arrange how you like. Tie a bow from the burlap ribbon and attach it to the carrot with hot glue, floral wire, or a pipe cleaner. Find instructions to make this type of bow in this post.
Finally, if desired, print and cut out an Easter tag and tie it onto the carrot with cute twine (get the tag here). Use the loop to hang the finished project from a wreath hanger.

Instructions
- Cut the foam cone vertically to make one side flat. Also cut around the corner at the top wide edge to make it more carrot shaped.
- Start gluing the rope onto the foam cone at the bottom (the pointed end). Continue gluing the rope on the foam cone in a spiral.
- If you run out of rope, start a new piece, making sure this seam is on the back of the carrot (flat side).
- Continue gluing on rope until the entire cone is covered except for a small opening on the top (the wide end) where you will add greenery. Create a loop for hanging and securely glue the end of the rope.
- Paint the carrot orange using watered down acrylic craft paint or spray paint. Allow to dry completely.
- Stick faux greenery into the top of the carrot. Create a bow out of burlap ribbon and gather any additional embellishments.
- Attach the bow using hot glue, floral wire, or a pipe cleaner. Tie or glue on any other embellishments to finish the wreath.
