Easy Valentine’s Day craft
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m just barely feeling back in the groove after Christmas break – and somehow it’s almost Valentine’s Day! I decided I needed a SUPER easy craft to work on this week, and this cute throw pillow fit the bill. All you do is use chunky yarn to spell out a word on a pillow cover – easy, quick, and fun. Mine is Valentine’s themed, but you could add any word you like!

Supplies
Here’s what you need to make this easy DIY pillow:
- Pillow Cover and Pillow Form: I used this pillow cover from Amazon – it’s a great price, super cute, and comes with pom poms all around the edge (comes in a 2 pack).
- Chunky Yarn: I used Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss yarn, which is very soft and chunky. I got it at Hobby Lobby and only used a small portion of the ball for this project, so I can save the rest for something else.
- Glue: I used Tacky Glue to adhere the yarn.

How to Make a “love” Pillow
Prep the Pillow Cover
Before beginning, you will want to iron or steam your pillow cover to remove any wrinkles. When ironing pillow covers, I unzip them and iron from the inside to make sure I don’t damage the texture of the outside. You could also probably toss it in the dryer for a few minutes to get rid of wrinkles (just check the tag).

Work in small sections so you don’t end up getting glue anywhere you don’t want it. You can be pretty liberal with the glue; just don’t add so much that it squishes out and is visible. Once it feels like the entire word is glued down, go back to the beginning and gently pull on the yarn looking for spots that didn’t get much glue. The glue will still be wet so don’t pull hard, just hard enough to see where you need more glue – it will hold up best if the entire yarn piece is glued to the pillow cover.

Instructions
- Iron the pillow cover from the inside to ensure there are no wrinkles, or toss it in the dryer for a few minutes (check the tag to see if it can go in the dryer). Trim the end of the yarn.

- Start placing the yarn on the pillow cover in the shape of the word.

- Continue adjusting the yarn until you are happy with the placement, then snip off the excess. Remember to leave a couple inches around the letters to make sure the word is readable once a pillow is in the cover.

- Glue the yarn onto the pillow cover, working with a small section at a time. Roll a few inches of yarn to the side, place glue on the pillow cover, and press the yarn back down.

- Use plenty of glue to make sure all of the yarn is glued down. If there are any bare spots, add more glue.

- Allow the pillow cover to dry for 24 hours before placing a pillow inside. Finished!

Hi! Would this work to put a word on a sweatshirt? Would the tacky glue hold up in the wash?
